At the previous lesson you were divided into 2 groups to prepare the poll. To prove that television has a lot of advantages and disadvantages you had to interview your schoolmates and sum up this information. I’m so curious about the results. Now you are given 3 minutes to discuss your results and one person of you will inform us about them. Will you write down the key words of advantages and disadvantages on the sheets of paper with a marker and place them on the board.
According to your research into the problem television has both advantages and disadvantages. Let’s repeat them. This group (who studied disadvantages) will repeat advantages one by one; the other group will repeat disadvantages.

Students discuss their results in groups and perform them with help of diagrams (prepared in advance) and key-words.

We are approaching to the second part of our discussion. And now we are going to learn some information about the Internet.
Let us use television (video) and listen to expert’s opinion about the Internet.
Your task is to choose the correct answer:
What is the manager talking about:
advertisement on the Internet;
e-mail services;
Advantages and disadvantages of the Internet.
Tapescript:
Advertisement for the Internet promises you a world of information, entertainment, on-line shopping and e-mail services. But the real world of the Internet may not be as perfect as the advertisements suggest.
Using the Internet offers man advantages. Firstly, all of the latest information is available to you at any hour of the day or night. It is much faster and easier to surf the net in search of information from all over the world than to travel to libraries on dozen of countries. What is more, on-line shopping makes it possible to search through catalogues to find exactly what you want at the best price, saving both time and money. By joining a newsgroup or a chat group, you share your hobbies and special interests, and perhaps make friends all over the world. Also, e-mail is popular because it is faster than sending a letter and cheaper that a telephone conversation. On the other hand, the Internet has several disadvantages. For example, with so much information available, finding what you can take you hours. Multimedia web pages with photographs music and video make downloading slow and boring. Moreover, there is too much advertising instead of real information. As for Internet friendships, sitting at home in front of your computer making ‘chat friends’ is not the same as actually meeting people. In conclusion, the Internet obviously has both good and bad points. Fortunately, the system is improving all the time, and any problems which still exist can be solved. Whether we like it or not, the Internet is here to stay, so we have to make the best possible use of it.
Yes, you are right. The correct answer is “c”.
Now we are going to watch this episode again, but you will have another task. The first group has to choose and write down the key words of advantages of the Internet, and the second – of disadvantages.
Then place them on the board and perform, using the key-words.
You may think of your own advantages and disadvantages of using the Internet.
Suggested key-words:
Advantages:
1. You can learn the latest information at any time
2. You can save your time and money buying things on-line
3. You can share your interests with chat groups
4. You can make new friends in chat groups
5. You can send e-mail fast and cheaply
6. You can advertise something
7. You can read magazines, books and newspapers on-line
Disadvantages:
1. It has so much advertising instead of real information.
2. Web pages with music photographs, and video make surfing slow
3.With so much information finding what you want can take hours
4. Making ‘chat friends’ is not the same as meeting people.
5. The Internet is a ‘drug’ impossible to resist
6.The Internet may lead to poor health
7.Viruses can break your computer

Students watch video and choose the correct answer.
Students work in groups, choosing advantages and disadvantages of the Internet. They write down the key words, think of their own advantages and disadvantages, place the information on the board and
perform it.

The first task for you is to discuss and name the advantages of advertising. And the second task for you is to prepare and show one advertisement in favour of advertising. The second team is against advertising. You are to discuss and name the disadvantages of advertising and to prepare and show an advertisement or a piece of advice against advertising.
3. The end of the lesson.
T: We shall stop here. In conclusion I want to add some words. As we see each aspect of mass media has its own advantages and disadvantages. You have mentioned about them. «The Fundamentals: hardware and software»
A computer consists of a screen, a keyboard and a boxlike case with the “brains” of the system. For most tasks you’ll also need a printer and, perhaps, a pointing device called a mouse. This equipment is called hardware.By itself, hardware is like a cassette player without tapes. A computer needs programs, or software, which usually includes one or more computer discs and a printed instruction manual.
The price depends on the hardware’s brain power—the type of processor and the size of its memory. How much power do you need? That depends of the software you’ll use. In general, words and numbers demand less from a computer than pictures and sound.Sufficient power is important because a computer works interactively. With hardware that isn’t up to the job, you might have to wait 30 seconds for an on-screen thesaurus to look up a word. But with the right system the entry would appear instantly.
A computer is an electronic device that stores information and allows changes is it through the use of (1) instructions. A modern computer is capable of doing various through tasks, like (2)word processing and (3) accounting. Personal computers (PCs) are widely used but widely used but working on them requires some techniques.
After turning on the computer a (4) PC user should (5) log into the (16) network by entering their (7) user nameand (8) password. Allow some time for the (9) operation system to (10) load. Soon you’ll see a (11) menu (oricons) on the monitor screen. With the help of the mouse or the keyboard choose the needed icon and start the programme. The programme allows the user to type texts, draw objects and (12) diagrams. While drawing one can (13) shape, (14) move, (15) transform, (16) copy and (17) fill objects. When creating texts we (18) format, (19) edit and copy them. Both drawings and texts can be (20) saved or (21) deleted. If you have a printer, you can (22) print the information displayed on the screen. Don’t forget to save your (23) file onto your(24) herd disk and (25) beck it up onto the floppies.
CD-ROMs can be used to produce images on the computer screen. The user can move around the programme be(26) clicking on different parts of the screen with a mouse. Clicking on the text will provide a new screen with more information, either in the form of text and diagrams, or as an animated cartoon.
Computers give us (27) access [‘aekses] to the Internet-an international computer network connecting other networks and computers from companies, universities or individuals etc. You can spend a lot of your free time (28) surfing the Internet and get all sorts of information from if. You can enter the (29) chat room with other Internet users and debate urgent problems (30) on line. If you are connectable by (31) e-mail (have an e-mail address), you can correspond with your friends or open your own (32) web page (web site) and place there information about yourself.
