Reported speech: Space
Task 1: Change the sentences into reported speech
1. Astronaut: «There is and won't be anything better than taking a
chance to travel to space».
2. Astrologist: «Until Yuri Gagarin flew to explore space no one
had done it but dreamt of it».
3. My friend: «If we set off to research space the closest possible
one day I will be the happiest man ever».
4. Yuri Gagarin: «It was a fantastic experience to orbit the Earth».
5. Friend: «Astronauts understand the meaning of the phrase
to the
moon and back
».
6. Government: «We are planning to construct 250 more multiple
space vehicles in contribution to space tourism».
7. Journalist: «Space tourism is a new trend in economic develop-
ment which has already gained great popularity».
8. Teacher: «If I were not a teacher I would be a space traveller be-
cause it is worth seeing the Earth from a different perspective».
Task 2: Reconvert the sentences back into direct speech:
1.
The news presenter said that the spaceship had just been
launched into the sky.
2.
Baikonur's local government reported that all necessary equip-
ment had been bought for cosmonauts a month ago to set off to
new space adventures.
3.
News announced that new space delegation would arrive to the
city to see space station in process.
4.
Neil Armstrong said that his travel to space was just a step for a
human but a great leap for mankind.
5.
Scientists claimed that space tourism could bring benefits to sci-
ence and damage to environment.
6.
Mother said that her son had been preparing to become a space-
man for all his life before he had flown to explore space for the
1st time in 1987.

Mechanic said that it had taken him 7 months to design a new
