cover all the individuals on a given topic, and as a result this leading language skill is often not
controlled in any way whatsoever. Instead the teacher tests knowledge of words, structures; ability
to ask and answer the questions in written form, ability to write a situation or topic suggested. In
order to avoid this, the following testing technique may be proposed. Each pupil gives his response
on tape. The teacher plays back the tape as he has time and evaluates each pupil’s performance.
Contemporary teaching aids make this available. It has been calculated that it takes a pupil 1-1,5
minutes to make a response containing 3-4 sentences.
The test must be constructed in such a way that the pupil need not give a lengthy answer but
his responsemust show his ability to pronounce and intone, use of certain vocabulary and
grammatical structures, and whether his speech is sustained or not. It will not take the teacher more
than half an hour to evaluate the achievement of all his pupils in a given form and get a clear picture
of each individual on a given topic. Regular oral tests will increase pupil’s sense of responsibility
and desire to master the spoken language[5, с.167].

CLIL IMPLEMENTATION INTEАCHING SCHОOL SUВJECTS OF THE SCIENCE
CYCLE IN ENGLISH
"It is impossible to exalt your nation by humiliating another nation. So I'm talking about
trilingualism. Kazakhstan should know the official Kazakh language. Russian is the language of our
great neighbor, one of the six languages of the United Nations. Through this language we came to
great literature and a great culture, you will agree. We should not forget this language, every
language is the wealth of a person " – said our president N.A. Nazarbaev. In addition, in order to be
competitive in the context of globalization, Kazakhstanis, according to the president, have to speak
English.[1]
Since 2013 yearthe program of trilingual education has been introduced through direct
teaching of Kazakh, Russian and English languages, as well as through teaching separate subjects in
three languages. The plan of development methodological guides for teachers has been developed
on the basis of CLIL approaches (content and language integration).[2]
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is an educational approach to foreign
language teaching in which the linguistic form ceases to be an end in itself and becomes the means
to express non-linguistic contents. In recent years, it has become a priority in the European
language policy [3].
The basis of CLIL is that content subjects are taught and learnt in a language which is not the
mother tongue of the learners. Knowledge of the language becomes the means of learning content.
Language is integrated into the broad curriculum.
CLILis built on the following principles.
- Сontent
- Сommunication
- Сognition
- Сulture
-Content needs to be analyzed in order to identify its linguistics demands and reconstructed so
143
that it permits the development of language.
- Communication is about identifying the language needs for the specific learning context so
that it can be possible to learn through the use of that language. This language needs to be
transparent and accessible. Interaction in the learning context is fundamental to learning.
- Cognition is about students developing skills to think, analyze and create their own
interpretation of knowledge and understanding.
- Culture and its complex relationship with language needs to be understood. Intercultural
awareness is fundamental toCLIL. [4]
One of the very basic aspects of this approach is to provide the students with key vocabulary
and phrases. This does not imply providing the students with lists of words but rather introducing
important words and phrases in a meaningful way at key points in the lesson.
Explaining content concepts several methods exist with which CLIL teachers can convey
content concepts more successfully.
- Visualisation techniques
- Active discovery of concepts
- Group work on content concepts
- Review of key vocabulary and key content concepts during lessons[5]
Implementation of CLIL lesson we can consider the example of biology lesson in Nazarbaev
Intellectual school, where we were passing the practical work.

class
Topic: “Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes”
Content and cognition
Explanation of the new topic:
- What is the cell? – The cell is…
- Are all organisms made of cells? Yes, giving
examples – pictures
( new words)
- Who came up with cell theory? Scientists:
- Hereditary information is in DNA.
- What types of cell do you know?
Students look a video “Prokaryotes and
Eukaryotes”
Group work: exercise +glossary
The groups write and/or draw some notes about the
cells.
The class presents the task.
Communication and culture
The students look another video and select by real
life the cells or organisms to observe in laboratory.
They prepare the microscope slides, observe the
slides under themicroscopeand make the photos.
Students look video on the differences between
prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
Then they present their photos and discussthelast
video. For assessment they do multiple choice
Test.
The subjects of the science cycle are taught in English in the 10 -12th classes. Gradual
preparation for lessons in English language begins in the 9th class.Lessons are led by two teachers:
the first is a foreign one, the second is a Kazakh one. The new topic is explained by the foreign
teacher, the Kazakh teacher assesses work of students in the lesson.
Learning is improved through increased motivation and the study of natural language seen in
context. When learners are interested in a topic they are motivated to acquire language to
