MODULE 9. The theme "Types of Sports Terminology" are considered in topics: "Sports
terminology", "Glossary of sports terminology", "Sports Terminology of the Olympic Games".
The contents of the Program are determined by four main levels of training (hearing, reading,
speaking, writing). Practical application of language in everyday life is considered by the purpose of
the trainee. Expansion and enrichment of dictionary lexicon of the student and ability of use of
language units is also important in direct communication. Therefore it is necessary to highlight
importance of compliance of this program to the international standards. By drawing up this
important document we have considered all requirements of the reform undertaken in the general
education sphere. Teaching English in audience is based on communicatively-directed technique.
Teaching and development of English according to the international standards is regarded as of
paramount importance.
The communicative role in informal conversation is the main condition both for students, and
for those who learn language. Teaching English in Higher Education Institutions, without language
direction, conforms to the European B2+LSP and LAP standards. Branch disciplines when
studying language rely on the target program (LSP, LAP) and reach the level of professional
communication.

The student has to perform the following communicative tasks.
HEARING demands from students to understand the text after listening and to explain
contents of information, to open a problem essence.
To listen and understand an exact and abstract thought at the statement within the allowed
language norm. To get into conversation without preparation with the native speaker. Within the
professional sphere to understand exact and abstract information of rather linguistic structure of
language. To understand a thought of the text on tape recording and to reveal an essence of this
subject.
To understand radio and telecasts within literary norm. To define a manner and style of the
acting speaker.
READING demands from the student oral transposition of contents of the text after reading,
to be able to answer questions on a certain subject. At this stage it is possible to learn the level of
lexicon of the student. Texts have to be formed on the set subject. The duty of the student includes
development and understanding of contents. Retell the matter with the detailed description.
When reading literature in the specialty the student is obliged:
- to apply various strategy of reading;
- to open an essence of the text and to understand the main idea.
WRITING demands from students a clear understanding and a statement in writing the
thoughts and opinion on this or that chosen subject. This task shows the level of knowledge of
language of the student and his lexicon. At this stage he shall write a summary of contents of the
read book. Also is able to constitute the summary and the small report on the chosen subject.
SPEAKING includes drawing up a conversation on a subject in the specialty. At the same
time it is necessary to follow the following rules:
- the student has to make freely offers on the set subject and speak fluently;
- to be able to state freely the thought after reading of the text on the chosen subject; to
express the opinion and to add by the own words;
- it is necessary to develop skills of oral speech at students: to convey information, to make
an interview, maintenance of a conversation, etc.
Level with a professional reference point.
HEARING defines the following requirements after listening:
- to understand information on the specialty;
- to understand a thought, a subject and the main contents after listening;

- during the business meeting to understand a conversation essence between two or more
listeners; to be able to do the conclusion for itself; The Subjects chosen by students surely have to
correspond to their specialty.
READING at this level assumes the following actions:
- to understand contents of the read text and to logically construct internal interrelation;
- the student has to add and retell the text in the specialty by the own words after his reading;
The Contents of the text, in turn, are supplied with special scientific terminology.
When reading the scientific article in the specialty the student has to fulfill the following
requirements:
- to apply the main strategy of reading; to understand the main thought of the text; to be able
to mark out for itself the main idea;
- to make the independent conclusion of read; to estimate the idea of the author;
WRITING demands deep understanding and development of the material intended on
reading from the student and to be able to inform of sense read by the own words. Also he has to
write by the own words sense and give an assessment in the form of the concept.
If students write the essay, it has to include 800-1000 words. There are 10-15 pages of the
paper enough for writing, summaries and official papers usually consist of 0,8 pages., the volume of
the abstract doesn't exceed 3-5 p.
Along with these skills the student has to:
- to make the plan for the listened subject which is connected with the specialty; to add by the
own words and to be able to correct if that is demanded by a subject;
- to write the summary after reading of books and articles in the specialty; to be able to make
the message on an audio material;
Also the student can give critical evaluation of the art text and make a complicated plan, write
freely the essay and the review.
SPEAKING assumes making up a conversation or interview on this or that subject within
specialty. At the same time students have to consider the following conditions: he makes the story
and orally states the thoughts; does short messages and gets into conversation without preparation.
Making up dialogue demands from the student:
- to understand and be able to answer the interlocutor by the own words; by means of
questions to find the necessary information;
- to freely state a thought and to share information with the partner; to inform of the opinion
to the interlocutor.
- to protect the point of view and to defend the opinion;
It should be noted that it is impossible to present all list of lexical subjects in the present
standard program of Higher Education Institutions. Each university proceeds from the plan of
vocational training and is always guided by the international standards for identification of level.
Criterion of determination of levels of students
B1 – the main level
The student can perform the following tasks on communication:
- to understand professional terms on the specialty and to be able to use them at
communication;
- to understand the main idea of texts in the specialty, to express the opinion, to state orally
the relation to this subject; to be able to make the short message by means of additional sources.
The student is obliged to state in writing the thoughts of the profession and to tell about future
specialty.
B2 – the main standard level
The student has to carry out the following tasks of language:
- in the professional sphere to be able to use structural features of communication and to use
in informal conversation;
- to master the main regularities of language and to apply them on the specialty;
- to be able to realize the acquired knowledge during educational process;
