Greeting.
Teacher greets the students.
Teacher introduces the Learning Objectives. Students pay attention to
the key words in each of the learning objectives and guess what activi-
ties for the lesson may be like. (W)
(W) Warming up:
There are names of 10 cities written on the white board.
Each student
is given a sticky note. They write their names/ nicknames on the notes.
Teacher asks them which of the cities on the board students would like
to visit this summer (or any other season). Students should come to
the board and stick the note on/next to this city. Make sure you write
the city names so that there is enough space around for the notes.
As soon as all have stuck the notes,
the class can identify the
most/least popular cities to visit. Ask some students at random why
THIS city. Some students may be asked to say why NOT another from
the list.
(P) Lead-in:
Students work in pairs. They are given the number of visitors (in
2015). They need to rank the cities (from the same list) and explain
their choices for the 10
th
, the 2
nd
most and the most visited
city in the
world. Then tell them the real data. Ask them to give possible reasons
for why London tops the list. Lesson topic is elicited.
