Preparation. Discussion questions

Lesson 1
Greeting
. Teacher and learners greet each other. Teacher
might ask students about their holidays. Students talk about
their holidays in a brief way (it’s up to the teacher).
Warm-up (P):
Students are presented a short video in order to
guess the theme of the lesson. First they watch the video, af-
terwards they are given handout where they should fill in the
gaps with the appropriate words.
Humans the most _________ species on the planet once cared
about the land. But then, there was ____________,
______________. We made __________ impacts on this
world. Impacts which still can be reversed. If we all land a
_________ hand, let us repair the damage. Let us reclaim our
land. After all, we only have one place to call home.
Answers: intelligent, ignorant, neglect, profound, helping
Students peer-check the answers.
Teacher writes the word «Earth» on a board. Students have to
say all the words related to this term. Teacher presents LO and
assessment criteria for the lesson which are discussed with
learners.

Preparation for speaking.
Students are shown the pictures
and vocabulary list that will be used in the lesson process.
They are given explanation of the unfamiliar words.

Preparation. Discussion questions
Students divide into group of 4 and they get familiar with the
questions. They prepare for the questions by including some
topic specific vocabulary
Questions for four groups
Group 1
What images spring to mind when you hear the word ‘Earth’?
What are your feelings towards the Earth?
How often do you think about the Earth?
How much trouble do you think the Earth is in today?
Would you like to see the Earth from space?
Group 2
Why is Earth the only place known in the universe that has life?
What do you know about the history of Earth?
Do you think ‘Earth’ is a good name for our planet?
What is Earth made of?
What do you know about continents on Earth?
Group 3
What do you do in your life to care for the Earth?
What do you know about the surface of the Earth?
What do you know about the earth’s rotation?
What natural hazards are there on Earth? Do they affect you?
Do you have an explanation for the creation of Earth?
Group 4
What are the biggest challenges facing Earth?
Do you think it’s possible to save the Earth?
What will happen to the Earth if all humans disappear from it?
Have you ever used the applications about Earth?
What do you think is the most beautiful thing about the Earth?
Speaking.
Each group has 5 questions, each group gets ready for their
questions and then they change their questions with another
group. Groups ask questions from one another and give feed-
back at the end.
