Кремнезем қож түзілу үрдісінің маңызды бір компоненті. Кремнезем – күшті қышқылды тотық. Негізді қожды үрдісте түзілген кремнезем қождағы FeO және MnO оксидтерімен әрекеттесіп, олардың силикаттарын түзеді.
