Final two-letter combinations
In this novel are found four two-letter combinations of vowels at the end of words, au, eu, ou, ou.

The combination of ay
Phonetically it – diphthong [ei], transmitting one syllable. For example, day [dei] 'day', may [mei], say
[sei], stay [stei].
The combination of ey
There are two ways of reading the phonetic combinations:
1. Phonetically it – diphthong [ei], transmitting one syllable. It occurs in the word: they. It is unstressed.
2. Phonetically it – one vowel [i]. It is shock-free, is used in the word money.
The combination of oi
Phonetically it – diphthong [ai], transmits one syllable. The combination is met in the word ‘thou’. The
stress falls on the first vowel combination.
Conclusion.
The analysis demonstrates that pronunciation of combinations of vowels can be a tricky area
for students. So, vast majority of learners may have difficulties with particular sounds, sound combinations
or with putting particular sounds in particular positions. Moreover, the quality of vowels can change
dramatically depending on how much they are stressed. Having said this, it is certainly not necessary to have
native-speaker-like pronunciation. Our accent is part of us as well as our culture, and there is no need to lose
it entirely. English pronunciation is very different from Kazakh and Russian pronunciation. The number of
letters and the sounds that they represent are not the same in English, Kazakh and Russian, and some English
sounds do not have corresponding sounds in native language. The real key to having good pronunciation is
what we call ‘comfortable intelligibility’. Therefore, learning the English vowel sounds is a crucial part in
achieving good pronunciation and intelligibility.
